-
Lameness and joint issues
-
Bone fractures and injuries
-
Hoof balance and shoeing concerns

Pre-purchase examinations
Digital images are available immediately, which means your vet can diagnose and discuss treatment options on the spot. This ensures your horse gets timely care and reduces delays in decision making.
-
Ultrasound
Gold Coast Equine Clinic offers advanced equine ultrasound services for accurate and non-invasive diagnosis. Ultrasound helps our vets assess:-
Tendon and ligament injuries
-
Joint and soft tissue problems
-
Reproductive health, including pregnancy scans
-
Abdominal and thoracic conditions
With high-resolution portable machines, we provide clear images on-site at your property or in our clinic. Early diagnosis through ultrasound supports faster treatment decisions, improved outcomes, and better long-term soundness for your horse.
-
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)
Shock wave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate healing and manage pain. It is effective for:
-
Tendon and ligament injuries
-
Back and sacroiliac problems
-
Joint inflammation
-
Chronic musculoskeletal pain
This treatment improves blood flow, supports tissue repair, and encourages faster recovery. Portable shock wave units allow treatment to be carried out in our clinic or at your property, making it a practical option for both performance and pleasure horses.
-
Pre-Purchase Examinations
Investing in a new horse is a big decision. A pre-purchase veterinary examination gives you peace of mind and helps protect your investment. At Gold Coast Equine Clinic, our vets perform thorough assessments tailored to the horse’s intended use, whether for racing, performance, or pleasure riding.
Our pre-purchase exams include:
-
Full clinical examination
-
Lameness and gait evaluation on multiple surfaces
-
Flexion tests and hoof balance assessment
-
Diagnostic imaging (X-ray and ultrasound available)
-
Endoscopy and laboratory testing if requested
-
Detailed written report with professional recommendations
Buying a horse without a veterinary check risks costly surprises. Our team provides clear, practical advice so you can make an informed decision with confidence.
-
Endoscopy
Endoscopy is a vital tool in equine veterinary care. It allows our vets to see inside your horse’s airways, stomach, or urinary tract using a small camera. This helps diagnose conditions that are not visible from the outside and ensures we find the cause of problems such as poor performance, respiratory issues, or gastric ulcers.
At GCEC, our team uses both standard and dynamic endoscopy. This means we can assess your horse while at rest or during exercise, giving a complete picture of their health. Endoscopy helps us provide accurate diagnoses and guide effective treatment plans, so your horse gets the right care as quickly as possible.
Endoscopy is safe, minimally invasive, and often the most reliable way to confirm conditions that impact your horse’s comfort and performance.
Stem Cells and IRAP Joint Therapy
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP therapy uses the horse’s own blood to concentrate platelets and growth factors that support tissue repair. It is most effective for:-
Tendon and ligament injuries
-
Joint inflammation
-
Soft tissue healing
PRP is injected directly into the injury site under ultrasound guidance. The treatment promotes faster healing and improves the quality of repair, reducing the chance of re-injury.
Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein (IRAP)
IRAP therapy targets joint inflammation by using proteins from the horse’s own blood to block the destructive effects of inflammatory enzymes. It is commonly used for:-
Osteoarthritis
-
Joint inflammation
-
Performance-related lameness
Blood is processed to extract the anti-inflammatory proteins, which are then injected back into the affected joint. IRAP offers a natural, long-term option for managing joint health and comfort.
-
Lameness Examination
Lameness is one of the most common problems affecting horses, and early diagnosis is key to keeping them sound and comfortable. A lameness evaluation involves a detailed examination by our vets to identify the cause of pain or uneven movement.
At GCEC, we combine hands-on assessment with advanced diagnostics. Evaluations often include flexion tests, gait analysis on different surfaces, nerve and joint blocks, ultrasound, and digital X-rays. Our purpose-built facility in Advancetown (coming soon!) includes an arena and multiple surfaces designed for accurate lameness investigations.
A thorough lameness evaluation helps pinpoint the exact issue, whether it is in the joints, tendons, ligaments, or hooves. With a clear diagnosis, we can create a targeted treatment plan to get your horse back to peak performance, whether they are a competition horse, racehorse, or pleasure mount.
Laboratory Services
Accurate and timely diagnostics are essential in equine medicine. GCEC provides in-house laboratory services so you receive fast results to guide treatment decisions.
Our lab is equipped for faecal egg counts (FECs), blood work, biochemistry, and other routine tests. This allows us to monitor your horse’s health, identify infections, check organ function, and detect issues that affect performance.
With rapid turnaround, we reduce waiting times and ensure treatment plans can be started without delay. Whether managing a sick horse, performing pre-purchase exams, or monitoring a performance horse’s fitness, our laboratory services provide vital information for your horse’s care.
Yearling Sales
Preparing a yearling for sale takes planning, detail, and trusted veterinary care. At GCEC, we provide full veterinary services to ensure your yearling is presented at its best and meets sale requirements.
Our vets conduct thorough pre-sale examinations, including X-rays, endoscopy, and general health checks. These assessments provide transparency for buyers and give sellers confidence when presenting horses at auction.
We work closely with clients in the lead-up to major sales, including Magic Millions, to make sure veterinary reports, imaging, and scoping are completed to the highest standard. Our team understands the expectations of buyers and agents and helps you prepare your horse to stand out in the sales ring.
Whether you are presenting one yearling or managing a draft, GCEC provides professional veterinary support tailored to your sales goals.
